This is Noel when she arrived to us in late December. Rejected from New Holland, the Broker was going to take her into the woods and shoot her if we didn't take her in. Of course we opened our doors. No horse deserves to work its entire life in the service of humans, only to be discarded with such carelessness.
Noel has made an amazing recovery. Aged at over 35 years old, Noel's only special requirements are Senior Feed and a joint supplement. . There is no excuse for the horrible condition she was kept in. Noel has some mild liver damage and mild anemia from long term starvation, but otherwise is healthy and happy and full of energy. She is the dominant horse in her pasture, and still kicks and bucks and frolics.
Noel still enjoys feeling like she has a "job", and enjoys being put to "work" giving short jaunts around the yard or some pony rides. Despite her age, she is not a dead head and still has some energy left in there.
Noel would make a perfect companion horse that could do very easy 20 minute walking rides or pony rides for children. She's a good herd leader and is a dominant horse, but is not herd bound and makes a wonderful example for younger horses. An all around lovely mare, she is fun o be around and is mannerly for vet and farrier. She offers moderate objections to bathing, but it can be done.
