Petunia was rescued from the New Holland Horse Auction on December 28, 2009. She was an Amish work horse, and was being sold to the kill buyer. She was so sweet and agreeable at the sale, and we had to take her home. Petunia has most likely only pulled a plow as her life's work, but she accepts tack and a rider without fuss. She is pretty unphased by most things, and took her first ride in a busy arena with lots going on. She did very well. Her commands are a little basic, like any pulling horse would be, but with her great attitude she'll be sure to progress quickly.
Here's a video of her first ride:
And here's a video of us Sledding with Petunia, enjoying our snow storm! Petunia had a great time also!
In just a few quick minutes, she really got the hang of what her rider wanted. Petunia is still confused about what squeezing with legs means, but add in a verbal cue and she puts it together quickly! Petunia was very good for tacking, mounting, and dismounting.
By what we see so far, Petunia should make a nice beginner or hubby horse. Hopefully fair weather will allow us to explore trail riding soon!
