Texas, 15 year old Belgian Gelding, 17.3 hands. A sweet and well seasoned trail horse, Texas used to camp with us for days on end and ride all day, but now ringbone and stifle effusions limit him to light use only. He will require a light use home that trail rides for a half hour to less than an hour over fairly easy terrain. Texas is suitable on the trail for any level of rider and is a wonderful mount for beginners.

Texas has EPSM , a common metabolic issue with draft horses, and he requires a high fat/low carbohydrate diet to maintain his muscle conditioning. If he is not kept on this diet, he becomes weak and lethargic and has trouble walking. Adopter MUST be willing to sign contract that Texas' dietary needs will be met.

An absolute doll of a horse, Texas has a few quirks: He doesn't bathe... at all. He will accept sponge baths if he must. He also prefers to ride in a hackamore, and he is gentle and featherlight without a bit. He also has trouble holding up his hind feet for the farrier due to his EPSM. He's not being bad, it's just physically hard for him. Texas gets along with all mares, but has on occassion met a few geldings he just couldn't cohabitate with.
But, in exchange for accepting his quirks, he'll give you love, a relaxing and willing spirit, and one of the best and most reliable rides you've ever had the pleasure of taking. Texas is a true gentleman.
